Apsorroceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-l]. Its type is Hamites baculatus.

It was assigned to Spiroceratidae by Arkell et al. (1957); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
