Etheripecten brevauriculatus was named by Yin (1983). Its type specimen is SC0007, a valve (Left valve), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Kucaoping, bed 7, Xixiang County, which is in a Changhsingian marine marl in the Tiefoshan Formation of China.
