Taxonomy
Neoptychites ingens was named by von Koenen (1897). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mungo River, between Mundame and Eliki, which is in a Turonian carbonate limestone/sandstone in the Mungo River Formation of Cameroon.
It was recombined as Hoplitoides ingens by von Koenen (1898), Solger (1904), Riedel (1933), Reyment (1955), Reyment (1958), Kennedy and Cobban (1988) and Chancellor et al. (1994).
