Boehmoceras was named by Riedel (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant-u]. Its type is Ancyloceras krekeleri.

It was assigned to Phlycticrioceratidae by Summesberger (1979); to Baculitidae by Kennedy and Christennsen (1993) and Kennedy (1995); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
