Taxonomy
Callocardia morrhuana was named by Dall (1902) [COMMENTS: Name attributed to Linsley, 1848.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cytherea morrhuana by Linsley (1845); it was recombined as Callocardia (Agriopoma) morrhuana by Dall (1902) and Dall (1903); it was recombined as Pitar morrhuana by Abbott (1954), Richards (1962) and Spencer and Campbell (1987); it was misspelled as Pitar morrhuanna by Coch (1971); it was recombined as Pitar morrhuanus by Hendy et al. (2008).

Synonyms
  • Cytherea sayana was named by Conrad (1833) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Miocene-Pleistocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

    It was recombined as Venus sayana by D'Orbigny (1852) and Tuomey and Holmes (1856); it was recombined as Meretrix sayana by Conrad (1854); it was recombined as Dione sayana by Conrad (1863); it was recombined as Callocardia (Agriopoma) sayana by Dall (1903), Glenn (1904) and Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Pitaria (Pitaria) sayana by Palmer (1926); it was recombined as Pitar sayana by DuBar (1962) and DuBar (1962); it was synonymized subjectively with Pitar morrhuanus by Rosenberg (2005).
