Taxonomy
Brancoceras was named by Steinmann (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Albi-m]. Its type is Ammonites senequieri. It is the type genus of Brancoceratinae.

It was assigned to Dipoloceratidae by Benavides-Caceres (1956); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Brancoceratinae by Kennedy (2004); and to Mojsisovicziinae by Bulot et al. (2005).
