Taxonomy
Probillingsites cobourgensis was named by Flower (1952). Its type specimen is a specimen in the collection of G. Winston Sinclair, a shell, and it is a cast. Its type locality is Cobourg, which is in a Shermanian/Edenian carbonate limestone in the Cobourg limestone Formation of Canada.
