Taxonomy
Buchiceras was named by Hyatt (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Buchiceras bilobatum. It is the type genus of Buchiceratidae.

It was assigned to Buchiceratinae by Parnes (1964); to Mammitinae by Wright (1996) and Cooper (1998); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
