Burckhardites was named by Humphrey (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u]. Its type is Neocomites nazasensis.

It was corrected as Burckhardtites by Renz (1982) and Barragán and Maurrasse (2008).

It was assigned to Deshayesitinae by Renz (1982); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Desmoceratinae by Barragán and Maurrasse (2008).
