Taxonomy
Zitteloceras praecedens was named by Flower (1952). Its type specimen is RHF 60, a partial shell (partial living chamber and partial phragmocone), and it is a cast. Its type locality is 1/4 mi SW of Chazy, which is in a Marmor/Ashbyan carbonate lime mudstone/grainstone in the Crown Point Formation of New York.
