Taxonomy
Canavaria was named by Gemmellaro (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Harpoceras (Dumortieria) haugi.

It was assigned to Arieticeratinae by Howarth (1955), Thomson and Smith (1992), Smith and Tipper (1996), Sepkoski (2002), Hillebrandt (2006) and Howarth (2013); and to Harpoceratinae by Benzaggagh et al. (2023).
