Taxonomy
Popanoceras trimurti was named by Diener (1897). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chitichun No. 1 Block (1892 collection), which is in a Wuchiapingian carbonate limestone in China.

It was recombined as Stacheoceras trimurti by Bucher et al. (1997) and Leonova (2002); it was recombined as Stacheoceras (Neostacheoceras) trimurti by Leonova (2018).
