Taxonomy
Poterioceras approximatum was named by M'Coy (1846). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMI F4562, a shell. Its type locality is Tyrone, which is in a Soudleyan/Longvillian offshore sandstone in the Bardahessiagh Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Diestoceras approximatum by Evans (1994).
