Taxonomy
Cunningtoniceras was named by Collignon (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-m Sepkoski's reference number: 901]. Its type is Ammonites cunningtoni.

It was assigned to Acanthoceratidae by Matsumoto and Skwarko (1993); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Acanthoceratinae by Kennedy et al. (1988), Kennedy and Cobban (1990), Kennedy (1994), Mosavinia and Wilmsen (2011), Kennedy (2013) and Gale et al. (2018).
