Taxonomy
Cymbites was named by Neumayr (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-l J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Cymbitidae.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cymbitidae by Smith and Tipper (1996), Howarth (2013) and Edmunds et al. (2016).
