Taxonomy
Scaphites ventricosus was named by Meek and Hayden (1862). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Anascaphites.

It was recombined as Anascaphites ventricosus by Hyatt (1900); it was recombined as Scaphites (Scaphites) ventricosus by Birkelund (1965).
