Taxonomy
Aphanaia erectum was named by Kauffman and Runnegar (1975). Its type specimen is USNM 180868, a valve (Right valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Coal Canyon Mine Creek, KBK5455, Adobe Range, which is in a Wordian marine siltstone in Wyoming.
