Taxonomy
Trochosmilia elongata was named by Reuss (1854). Its type locality is Jhirk, Sind, Pakistan, which is in a Selandian/Thanetian reef, buildup or bioherm horizon in Pakistan.

It was recombined as Acrosmilia elongata by Baron-Szabo (2003).
