Taxonomy
Thamnasteria tonantzinae was named by Filkorn and Pantoja-Alor (2009). Its type locality is Chumbitaro, MP 17, which is in an Albian/Cenomanian perireef or subreef wackestone in the Mal Paso Formation of Mexico.
