Nuculoceratidae was named by Ruzhencev (1957). Its type is Nuculoceras.

It was reranked as the subfamily Nuculoceratinae by Titus (2000) and Furnish et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Neoglyphiocerataceae by Korn (2006); and to Cravenoceratidae by Titus (2000) and Furnish et al. (2009).
