Decoritidae was named by Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya (1975). Its type is Decorites.

It was reranked as the subfamily Decoritinae by Furnish et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Gastriocerataceae by Korn (2006); and to Homoceratidae by Furnish et al. (2009).
