Taxonomy
Latiastraea magna was named by Sikharulidze (1985). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Mokhorotubani, Dzirul Massif, which is in a Hauterivian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in Georgia.

It was recombined as Latiastrea magna by Sikharulidze (1985) and Kiessling (2014).
