Taxonomy
Adelocoenia maxima was named by Beauvais (1964). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Hofbergli, which is in an Oxfordian perireef or subreef limestone in Switzerland.

It was recombined as Pseudocoenia maxima by Roniewicz (1966).
