Taxonomy
Epophioceras was named by Spath (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-l J Sine-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites landrioti.

It was assigned to Arietitidae by Spath (1924); to Echioceratidae by Blau (1998); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Asteroceratinae by Corna and Dommergues (1995), Meister and Friebe (2003), Geczy and Meister (2007) and Howarth (2013); and to Asteroceratidae by Edmunds et al. (2016).
