Lituites eatoni was named by Whitfield (1886). It is the type species of Curtoceras.
It was recombined as Schroederoceras eatoni by Hyatt (1894); it was recombined as Curtoceras eatoni by Ulrich et al. (1942), Kröger and Landing (2009) and Kröger and Aubrechtova (2017).
