Septastrea matsoni was named by Vaughan (1919). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 7873 - Usiacuri [Usiacuri Fm], which is in a Pliocene marine siliciclastic in the UsiacurĂ­ Formation of Colombia.
