Taxonomy
Fanninoceras was named by McLearn (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-l J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Oxynoticeratidae by Thomson and Smith (1992) and Smith and Tipper (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Dubariceratidae by Hillebrandt (2006); and to Fanninoceratinae by Howarth (2013).
