Taxonomy
Stephanocoenia decaseptata was named by Weisbord (1971). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is FLX [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine horizon in the Chipola Formation of Florida.

It was recombined as Madracis decaseptata by Stemann (2003).
