Taxonomy
Gabbioceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Ceno-l]. Its type is Ammonites batesi. It is the type genus of Gabbioceratinae.

It was assigned to Gabbioceratinae by Wright et al. (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gabbioceratini by Hoffmann (2010).
