Taxonomy
Astacus ornatus was named by Phillips (1829). It is not extant. It is the type species of Meyeria.

It was recombined as Meyeria ornatus by Feldmann et al. (1995); it was recombined as Meyeria ornata by M'Coy (1849), Bell (1863), Schlüter (1868), van Straelen (1936), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Feldmann et al. (2015).
