Taxonomy
Portunus atecuicitlis was named by Vega (1999). Its type specimen is IGM-7653, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is IMG 2989, San Pablo [Tuxpan Fm], which is in a Miocene marine sandstone in the Tuxpan Formation of Mexico.
