Taxonomy
Paramiatus gurleyi was named by Russell and Fryxell (1928). Its type specimen is FMNH UC 2201, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. It is the type species of Paramiatus.

It was recombined as Cyclurus gurleyi by Grande and Bemis (1998).
