Taxonomy
Acrolepis sedgwicki was named by Agassiz (1833). It is the type species of Acrolepis.

It was corrected as Acrolepis sedgwickii by Agassiz (1839), Agassiz (1843), Howse (1848), King (1850), Woodward (1891) and Holzapfel and Malzahn (1984).
