Taxonomy
Himantoceras was named by Thieuloy (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala-u]. Its type is Himantoceras trinodosum.

It was assigned to Crioceratitidae by Avram and Gradinaru (1993); to Crioceratinae by Reboulet (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Himantoceratidae by Klein et al. (2007).
