Taxonomy
Chonetes spitzbergianus was named by Toula (1874).

It was recombined as Lissochonetes spitzbergiana by Brabb and Grant (1971); it was recombined as Lissochonetes spitzbergianus by Afanasjeva (1977) and Kalashnikov (1993); it was recombined as Dyoros (Dyoros) spitzbergianus by Shen et al. (2005).
