Fenestrellina simulatrix was named by Crockford (1946). Its type specimen is UQ F7950A and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lakes Creek Quarry, Rockhampton, which is in a Kungurian carbonate limestone in the Berserker Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Fenestella simulatrix by Wass (1968).
