Ephedrus was named by Haliday (1833). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ephedrini.

It was assigned to Braconidae by Carpenter (1992); to Aphidiinae by Ortega-Blanco et al. (2009); and to Ephedrini by Davidian (2023).
