Taxonomy
Microtypus was named by Ratzeburg (1848). It is extant. It is the type genus of Microtypinae.
It was assigned to Diospiloidae by Brues (1939); to Braconidae by Carpenter (1992); to Microtypini by Belokobylskij (2014); and to Microtypinae by Belokobylskij and Zaldívar-Riverón (2021).
