Dvinosauroidea was named by Säve-Söderbergh (1935). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Yates and Warren (2000).

It was assigned to Dvinosauria by Warren (1998), Yates and Warren (2000) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
