Isterites was named by Barthel (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Perisphinctes (Pseudovirgatites) palmatus.

It was assigned to Perisphinctaceae by Barthel (1975); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
