Taxonomy
Heliastrea nerthensis was named by Chevalier (1961). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Chainon de La Nerthe, Bouches-du-Rhone, which is in an Aquitanian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone/marl in France.
