Oligotresium was named by Gabb and Horn (1862). It is not extant.

It was reranked as Lunulites (Oligotresium) by Canu and Bassler (1920); it was synonymized subjectively with Lunulites by Bassler (1953).

It was assigned to Lunulites by Canu and Bassler (1920); and to Lunulitidae by Cheetham (1962).
