Taxonomy
Lingula elegantula was named by Shaler (1865). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Lingula rectilateralis by Schuchert (1897); it was recombined as Lingula (Pseudolingula) elegantula by Bassler (1915); it was recombined as Pseudolingula elegantula by Sinclair (1945).
