Leptechioceras was named by Buckman (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Echioceratidae by Blau (1998), Blau et al. (2000), Meister and Friebe (2003), Howarth (2013) and Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2018).
