Taxonomy
Eocystites longidactylus was named by Walcott (1886) [Lectotype USNM 15315 mentioned in the text.]. Its type specimen is USNM 15315 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Eocrinus longidactylus by Jaekel (1918); it was recombined as Gogia longidactylus by Robison (1965) and Sprinkle (1973).

R. A. Robison 1965Brachioles number 8 to 16, and possibly more; nonspiraled. Thecal plates irregularly arranged and of nonuniform size; number probably ranges up to as many as 500; shape and ornamentation vary considerably. Plates in upper part of theca commonly possess small granules, whereas plates in lower part of theca usually are smooth. Sutural pores usually restricted to plates in upper part of theca. Hohl- wurzel extremely long and slender; distal end unknown.
