Taxonomy
Stylocoenia aurelii was named by Álvarez-Pérez (1997). Its type locality is Igualada, Ebro Basin, La Tossa Formation, Catalonia, which is in a Bartonian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the La Tossa Formation of Spain.
