Taxonomy
Favia confertissima was named by Reuss (1868). Its type locality is Monte Grumi, Castelgomberto, which is in a Rupelian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Castelgomberto Formation of Italy.

It was recombined as Goniastrea confertissima by Frost (1981); it was recombined as Variabilifavia confertissima by Budd and Bosellini (2016).
