Taxonomy
Diploastrea bacata was named by Budd et al. (1992). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Lago Alahuela, Panama, which is in a Priabonian reef, buildup or bioherm mudstone/limestone in the Gatuncillo Formation of Panama.
