Buenellus higginsi was named by Blaker (1988) [Geological Museum, Copenhagen, Denmark]. Its type specimen is MGUH 18.287 and is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Buenellus.

Peel 2007Cephalon semicircular, width about 1.5 to 2.25 length; ocular lobe smoothly semicircular to slightly abaxially geniculated in posterior one-third; width (tr.) of interocular area slightly narrower than extraocular area; genal area of variable width. Thorax variable but moderately wide, about 0.5 to 0.6 of maximum sagittal length, widening slightly backward to about 6th segment, then tapering posteriorly; inner pleural regions slightly wider (tr.) than axis.
