Taxonomy
Siderastrea mendenhalli was named by Vaughan (1917). It is not extant. Its type locality is Alverson Canyon, which is in a Pliocene perireef or subreef limestone/sandstone in the Imperial Formation of California.

Synonyms
  • Siderastrea californica was named by Vaughan (1917) [Originally attributed to Vaughan by Arnold 1906, p. 22.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Carrizo Creek, which is in a Pliocene perireef or subreef limestone/sandstone in the Imperial Formation of California.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Siderastrea mendenhalli by Budd et al. (1994).
